Briana and Aaron at the Park
July 10th, 2021 was Briana and Aaron's 7th anniversary of being a couple and they wanted to get married on that date. Then the pandemic hit and the health guidelines restricted the number of people who could gather together. The wedding was postponed to September 2021, and I was happy to be able to accommodate the change. Then the restrictions were lifted somewhat and the date was back to the original! Yay!
When Briana, Aaron, and I first met over a Zoom meeting to see if I was a good fit for being their photographer, I told them I don't do many weddings, but when they told me it was to be in Aaron's Dad's back yard, and around 50 people I was in! Just seeing them online and chatting about their plans, I knew they were my kind of couple. No big church wedding, large reception hall with bad lighting, just hopefully a nice day on a back lawn in the city of Prince George. Perfect! We proceeded with designing their product package which included 4 hours of shooting time, 20 matted prints in a folio box, and maybe something for parents and grandparents. They knew what they wanted!
So when the date changed back to July 10th, I wanted to get to know my couple a bit better before the big day. Briana and Aaron didn't want an engagement session, but when we talked, I convinced them we should get together, and I would like to meet at Cottonwood Island Park at the replica bridge where they wanted their formals captured. They didn't think they wanted photos before the wedding, so I threw the engagement session in, no charge, so I could meet them. And I'm so glad I did! It's stressful enough walking into a photo session, let alone a wedding setting, without a face-to-face meeting with my clients.
So when we arrived at the bridge, Aaron was wearing his hat. (My bad for not doing a consult first.) So what do I say to him right off the bat? "Are you getting a hair cut before the wedding?" Ha! I quickly removed my foot in my mouth and laughed, explaining I had boys who had long hair and short hair all through school and my oldest has hair longer than I do! Luckily he wasn't offended! Well, at least they got to know me before the wedding! And they didn't change their minds either.
Briana and Aaron were such a fun couple to photograph. They admitted they had never had professional photos taken before, which is not unusual for their age group. So we spent the next hour just walking and talking, checking out the location, and going through a few of the poses we would use on their wedding day. One of my favourite poses is sitting on this wonderful wooden bridge.
Their wedding day was fantastic, hot, a bit of rain just before the ceremony, then tons of mosquitoes at the park! But they did it! And I will have the photos to share in my next blog post.
Thank you, Briana and Aaron, for trusting me to be your photographer on your big day!
